Which States had the most Complaints?
Issues with Navient and its services is not evenly distributed across each state. While there was a notable spike in complaints in 2017, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has tracked these numbers since 2011.
The map below shows the number of complaint by state, color-coded by which state is home to borrowers with the most complaints. It is no surprise that California, Pennsylvania, Florida and Texas were the hardest hit by issues with Navient, but note that the data doesn't necessarily mean that percentages of borrowers with issues in those states are the highest by population.
A Breakdown of Complaints by Type
According to
Student Loan Planner the lawsuits filed against Navient resulted from different issues with the company's services. Some of those things include failure to apply payments to accounts, issues with IDR guidance, and failure to report loans to credit bureaus. Below, you can find a graph that illustrates the most common types of complaints.
Out of 33,214 complaints against Navient, 29,932 pertained to student loans.
