A survey of borrowers in Georiga and Virginia in 2019 concluded that what is most challenging when dealing with Navient is the lender itself. In other words, Navient has a customer service problem.

Navient, one of the nation's largest student loan servicers, has been embroiled in a lawsuit mired in complaints of being misled by the corporation. To understand the public perception—and the borrower's frustration, a poll was conducted of federal loan holders to identify the grievance.

The poll found that in Georgia, 68 percent of grievances cited dealing with Naviant—regardless of compliant—is a source of disappointment. The same truth echoed by Virginians tallied 44 percent of the public response, aligning with Georgia's complaints.

The Consumer Finance Protection Bureau filed a lawsuit against Navient in 2017. The suit charged the company with not acting in the best interest of its customers, according to studentloanplanner.com. In an article published in July 2020, the watchdog site detailed the suit, providing more context to similar borrowers' gripes.
